Get Ready

Updated: Nov 19, 2020

by Jan Sipe

I came into the kitchen and found my mother on a chair cleaning the top of the refrigerator. "What on earth are you doing?" She responded, "Getting ready for my mother's visit." Puzzled, I asked why since I'd never seen her in this situation. "Grandma is 3 inches taller than me. She'll be able to see the top of the refrigerator and think I never clean."

Whenever I think about Grandma visiting, I'm reminded to clean and prepare. Inevitably I check the top of the fridge to make sure I'm ready for guests.

The Christmas season is approaching. I'm getting my house cleaned and organized to prepare for our traditional decorations. There won't be guests during this crazy 2020 holiday time. Thankfully Jesus came at Christmas many years ago. Advent is the time of preparation and focus on celebration of the greatest gift we can receive.

Advent is coming. It's the season we celebrate Jesus' coming. It's time to get ready. Be sure to use our Advent booklet, Preparing to Hear God's Call, as we get ready together. You can get your copy by logging into the member section of the website or contact the church office.

What is your favorite memory of getting ready?
